Formal dresses, as the name suggests, should be worn to formal occasions. When it comes to formal attire, it is still very particular. However, do you know when you should wear the formal gowns? Generally speaking, the events for specific formal wear have been divided into several categories. Read on and the following content will show you.
Wedding & funeral,Referring to formal events, it is easy for us to think of the wedding as well as funeral. The two events are bracketed together, that is because the same black dresses will work well for them. Just as the fashion experts say that a black formal dress is a must to collect in the closet for any woman. Of course, the difference between the two occasions is the dresses for wedding are not just limited to the black gown.Handcrafted cocktail dresses take center stage. What is the best color usually depends on the theme of the wedding.
In traditional thinking, when talking about formal dresses, you might connect them with the floor-length gowns. In a general way, the length of the dress lies on the formality of the occasion, the more formal the occasion is, and the longer the gown will be. So in a certain way, the short formal dresses are also being as long formal dresses. If you plan to attend a party, what you need to choose is a formal cocktail dress rather than a gown. Party is considered as a semi-formal occasion so that a short gown in any color matching your skin tone is great. Both of them worth the name are the formal events. The dresses should be simple and elegant instead of being big and puffy. There are numbers of styles of formal dresses available, however, it is a good idea to opt for the A-line or sheath style. Of course, the gowns are not enough for your perfect appearance, it is necessary to add some beautiful accessories to complement your beauty.
Whatever you are going to wear, the key point is that you should make sure the formal dresses will flatter you well and they can highlight your charming sides. Once you have made up your mind to get a formal gown, you should consider where to purchase. On the one hand, you can search for it at any dress shop instead of a department store where it is much harder to find your ideal formal dress. Of course, they might be in a bit expensive price. On the other hand, it is easy to find them in the bridal stores. The reason is that the bridesmaid dresses are also thought of as formal gowns. If you really look forward to getting a cheap formal dress, it is advisable to look for it online when you keep your body shape in mind.

Her pillowcase dresses clothe girls worldwide
The girls, glowing with smiles, wear bright dresses in all colors of the rainbow. Neatly tied ribbons serve as slim straps above the cool, soft cotton. These girls are in St. John, Haiti, Uganda, Romania and India. These dresses are made from pillowcases.Lisa Ward of Mooresville - together with family, friends, a passion to serve and Facebook as facilitator - has made and delivered more than 614 dresses to girls in five different countries.
Between 400 and 500 more dresses will be delivered to India, Uganda and Haiti later this year, said Ward, who is the N.C. representative for Dress a Girl Around the World.
Hope 4 Women International's Dress a Girl Around the World is a not-for-profit agency. Members sew pillowcase dresses for the agency to distribute. Teams and partners personally carry the dresses to their destinations. The organization has delivered about 46,717 dresses to 53 countries, including the U.S.
Ward's journey began in March 2011 after she read a news article posted on Facebook about a local church that, inspired by Dress a Girl, was delivering dresses to Haiti. Ward wanted to help after hearing how the dresses would benefit girls affected by the 2010 earthquake. She contacted Rachel Eggum Cinader, founder of Dress a Girl. Cinader invited her to be N.C. representative for the organization. Ward started sewing with her family's blessing.
On May 24, Ward posted to Facebook: "Please check out this website.I will be the N.C. state representative for this organization and help collect, teach and distribute dresses around the world with this organization. So exciting! Our goal at Hope 4 Women International is "to provide a dress for every girl around the world."
"Facebook friends came out of the woodwork," she said. The first 200 dresses she sewed were made from collections she received from Facebook friends and family. They were sent to a missionary in Haiti. The Wards' living room recently served as temporary storage for a community yard sale the family hosted to raise money for Ward herself to make trips to Uganda and India to deliver dresses and teach women to sew. The master bedroom is now sewing headquarters.
The sewing center is highly organized in a colorful assembly-line system. Piles of pillowcases and ribbon are neatly stacked and folded on the two tables that form an L-shape around Ward and her sewing machine. She has pre-matched each stack so it's ready to be sewn. Piles of finished dresses line the floor.

Grabbed by Their Lapels
New York designers have been harping on youth and playing Led Zeppelin, one of the funnier contradictions of Fashion Week. But rock ’n’ roll doesn’t make fashion relevant any more than putting bobby socks with stilettos does, although Oscar de la Renta did both. He had all the elements he needed in his clothes: in the airy skirts in marigold and emerald silk taffeta that opened his show on Tuesday; in gauzy bowed blouses that appeared with a silk knit suit; in a sweet, below-the-knee dress in white cotton voile and Battenberg lace. Lightness always gets the lead out.
Fashion Week always has a distorting effect on people’s perceptions, designers included. At first, the game seemed to be sports-influenced clothes.A day in the life of a bus driver: On the road again. Then the action suddenly shifted to easy summer dresses, with run-amok prints and colors. On Tuesday, when Olivier Theyskens, the creative director of Theory, sent out linen and tweed jackets with jeans that could sit on your waist while riding your hips, everybody sat up and said, “Gee, that looks great.”
This news was hardly hidden, though. Like the youthfulness of Mr. de la Renta’s ball skirts, it was right under our noses. The fact is, three dominant themes have emerged for spring, each of them reinvigorated: the sports garment (be it biker shorts or Michael Kors suede Bermudas or a floaty parachute skirt); the soft, below-the-knee dress (whether it’s a lean wisp of silk or a blousy Rodarte number), and a jacket. Mr. de la Renta showed a number of relaxed suits, but the blazer looks its newest over a dress or with pants or slim shorts.
The clearest, though by no means brainiest, articulation of the look was Mr. Theyskens’s lanky blazers and cardigans with skinny jeans that borrowed on the hip-hop style of letting your britches sink below your bottom. I remember seeing a similar technique of creating a high waistband with a hip belt and low back pockets in the 1990s from a designer raised in Detroit. Mr. Theyskens’s versions worked in their own right, along with the femmy tops and minidresses he showed both with hooker heels and combat boots. He also tossed in some neon metallic jeans, perhaps anticipating competitors who might have a similar style in the pipeline.

Advice Goddess: Philandering boyfriend and cheating husband
My boyfriend lives in Germany, and I'm in Switzerland (a one-hour plane ride away). His close female friend is getting married, and I'm not invited to the wedding. Last spring, when we were broken up for three months, he had a fling with the bride's friend. As a courtesy to the fling woman, I'm blacklisted. Last summer, when we got back together, I asked that he clear up things with his fling immediately, which he agreed to do. Our relationship grew stronger for a couple weeks, and then I learned he was going on vacation with her. (He had already booked the trip and didn't want to cancel!) Fun fact: He wrote me a postcard while away with her. I was incredibly hurt. Only when I screamed at him afterward did he muster the courage to break up with her. Since then, he has been nothing short of wonderful and tells me I'm the one. I love him, but I'm feeling humiliated by this wedding situation. He has promised to try to persuade the bride to invite me but feels he shouldn't miss her wedding.
Where To Buy A Cheap Designer Prom Dress? What kind of man sends his girlfriend a postcard from his sex vacation with his fling? Well, probably one who got to the gift shop too late to buy her an I Cheated On You At Euro Disney snow globe or an I Had Sex With Another Woman At Lake Lucerne bobblehead.
Happily, you report that the guy's been nothing short of wonderful post-vacation -- save for how quick he was to throw you under the wedding bus as a courtesy to his ex-sex friend. Your boyfriend -- let's call him Werner von Bendover -- is a suckup of legendary proportions. As hurtful as this has been for you, he probably isn't driven by malevolence, just a crushing need to be liked. This is tough to overcome because it typically traces back to parents who gave conditional love (I'll love you, you rotten kid, if you dry the dishes). He has no problem saying no to you -- probably because he feels secure that you love him -- but for everyone else, it's Shall I lick your boots or just use my toothbrush and a little soapy water?
A people pleaser is an emotional chameleon, constantly transforming himself into the person he thinks other people want him to be. If your boyfriend ever had values and opinions of his own, they're probably so long gone that he has no idea how to find them. (Too bad you can't look them up on Facebook like an old school chum: Hey, whassup?!) It was only when you made some squeak of objection about the vacation plans -- letting old Werner know he'd displeased you -- that he flew into action. He wasn't about to cancel and disappoint the other woman and his travel agent just to preserve the dignity of the woman he (supposedly) loves. But, he did loop you in with a postcard: Gerta wore her milkmaid outfit today. Wish you were here!

First, look for a style that is flattering to your body type. Larger figures often look good in halter style dresses.
Then, consider the appropriate color. Perhaps, you need to stick with a color scheme of the wedding or party. If you have carte blanche to pick the color you want, you may want to select a dark shade that will slenderize.
Finally, comfort is of the utmost importance, as you will probably be spending several hours in the dress. Try on gowns and dresses with the right undergarments, and see how they fit and feel. If you have to tug on straps or suck in your tummy, you probably need a different size or style.

Without creative director, Dior loses its way
Hoots and thunderous applause erupted from backstage, but the audience at the Dior show Monday greeted the storied label's fall-winter 2011-12 haute couture with a short-lived flurry of halfhearted claps.
The collection was the first in 15 years not under the label's disgraced former creative director, John Galliano — and it showed.
Season after season, the flamboyant British designer churned out blockbuster collections that inventively reinterpreted founder Christian Dior's hallmark silhouettes — the nip-waisted Bar jackets and full, cheap formal dresses that revolutionized fashion after World War II. Galliano was summarily sacked in March after a video showing him praising Hitler went viral on the Internet, and he stood trial in Paris on anti-Semitism charges last month.
A successor has not yet been named, so it was with bated breath that the small audience of fashion insiders waited to see who would take to the stage Monday for a post-show bow. The man who emerged was Bill Gaytten, a fellow Briton who was Galliano's longtime right-hand man.Gaytten was named creative director at Galliano's signature line, John Galliano, last month, but Dior executives were quick to stress that he hadn't taken the reins at Dior, one of the world's top brands and the jewel in the crown of luxury giant LVMH.
"Mr. Gaytten has done this collection but he is not artistic director." Dior president Sidney Toledano told journalists backstage in a post-show interview. "We are taking our time because we want to find a long-term solution, and many hypotheses are being explored."
Given the audience's tepid reaction to Monday's show, it seemed likely that Gaytten would prove more of a stopgap measure. The collection simply lacked cohesion. With sections that channeled the fluorescent pop aesthetic of the 1980s, a sort of 1970s Marrakech bohemian vibe, and shiny modernist architecture, the show felt like a bunch of ideas thrown almost randomly together. It was like watching three shows in one — and not a particularly inspiring three shows, at that.
